Physiotherapy Training - 13 February 2026

The PPCS medical team constantly puts in effort to equip themselves with knowledge & skills in order to improve the services we offer. Recently, they participated in a physiotherapy training session conducted by the experienced staff at Physiofit Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre, who demonstrated techniques and also answered questions regarding the use of physiotherapy to help patients under our care.

In the context of palliative care, physiotherapy treatment plays its part in optimising a person’s functioning ability, enabling him/her to regain or maintain physical independence. By doing so, personal autonomy is preserved which contributes to quality of life.

Summary of Services Provided in 2025

Heartfelt gratitude to all who have shared their resources, time, and effort in support of PPCS’s mission. As we move forward in 2026, it is our continued hope that each person who needs palliative care will receive it and continue to live meaningfully, despite challenging health conditions.

Palliative Care Workshop at Hospital Fatimah Ipoh

On the 14th of November, the PPCS medical team participated in a Palliative Care Workshop at Hospital Fatimah Ipoh. This full-day event was open to all nurses and doctors.

Members of our team helped to conduct a few sessions, including “A Day In The Life of a Palliative Care Nurse”, “Common Symptom Management in Palliative Care”, and a Practical Session on Cancer Pain Control for Nurses.

Thank you to Hospital Fatimah Ipoh for hosting and we hope that the knowledge shared was beneficial to all who were involved. It is our aim to continue educating healthcare workers about palliative care, giving insight and promoting best practices for providing holistic support to patients and their families.

Increasing Awareness & Understanding about Palliative Care - KLKCare Wellness Week 2025

On the 2nd of October 2025, PPCS was given the opportunity to spread awareness about palliative care and its services by engaging with KLK Berhad staff via an information booth at Wisma Taiko. This initiative was held in conjunction with KLKCare Wellness Week 2025. Dr Koh Wai Keat (PPCS President) also delivered a talk titled “Walking The Last Mile With Compassion – Bringing Dignity & Care Home”.

We truly appreciate the invitation from KLKCare to share about our work and mission with the employees of KLK Berhad. Thank you for the support which helps us to continue walking alongside our patients and their families with kindness and empathy.

Sunshine Hour: April - June 2025

On the 16th of April, Sunshine Hour consisted of a craft session led by Marilyn. The process involved participants tracing the outline of their hand on paper, cutting it out, then decorating it with smaller pieces of coloured paper in different shapes. They were encouraged to express themselves by writing down encouraging words or quotes on their artwork.

The creative activity was followed by a potluck meal, where all present enjoyed the scrumptious spread while catching up with one another’s latest happenings.

A sit-down exercise session was organised on the 14th of May for Sunshine Hour participants. Led in turns by Mr & Mrs Yeoh, they were each provided with a cardboard tube of medium length and taught how to do certain movements along to the music.

For Sunshine Hour on the 18th of June, an entertaining ice-breaker set the participants in a cheerful mood before it was the moment to appreciate two longtime volunteers, Irene and Goh Mooi. They had been involved with PPCS for many years and were each gifted a beautiful flower bouquet as a sign of gratitude for their commitment.

There was also a cooking demonstration by Mai on how to make Thai glass noodle salad, after which participants savoured the outcome along with homemade red bean soup and coconut jelly.

We thank all facilitators, volunteers, and participants for their time and presence which makes the monthly Sunshine Hour Program possible.

Empowering Mobility: Donation of Wheelchairs Received

Last week, Perak Palliative Care Society received a donation of four wheelchairs from the late Mr Chan Kham Mun. We greatly appreciate the kind gesture which was facilitated by his wife, Mrs Chan.

These mobility aids will be loaned out to patients registered under our Home Care Programme, providing access to movement and thus enabling them to lead more independent, active, and fulfilling lives.

As a non-profit organisation supplying services free of charge, PPCS welcomes both monetary donations and contributions of medical equipment. If you would like to support us and need more details, please contact our office at 05-546 4732.

Sunshine Hour: Yoga Exercise with Yemaya Life Ipoh - March 2025

The Sunshine Hour for March 2025 was attended by 17 participants and 10 volunteers from PPCS. Led by a group of ladies from Yemaya Life Ipoh, the participants enjoyed a yoga exercise session. With enthusiastic encouragement from the exercise leaders, accompanied by upbeat music, the Sunshine Hour participants worked up a real sweat as they followed the demonstrated actions in both seated and standing positions. A happy mood was evident from the smiles on their faces.

After half an hour of physical activity, the group cooled down gradually with gentle stretching and slower movements. Tokens of appreciation were presented to the representatives of Yemaya Life Ipoh, expressing gratitude for their time and energy.

This session was concluded with the sharing of light refreshments prepared by some volunteers. It was wonderful to see the participants chatting and spending time together before they returned to their respective homes.
